MATT McClure has become the eighth member of Gary Waddock’s squad to commit himself to Aldershot Town for next season.
The 26-year-old joins Matt Bozier, Jake Cole, George Fowler, Jake Gallagher, Lewis Kinsella, Adam McDonnell and Scott Rendell in signing a new contract with the Shots.
The Slough-born striker joined from Dagenham & Redbridge in June 2016 and, although dogged by injuries, has scored 15 goals in 82 appearances across two seasons with the club.
A former Northern Ireland U21 international, McClure previously scored 26 goals in 69 starts across four seasons with Wycombe Wanderers, for whom he had been given his professional debut by the then Chairboys manager, Gary Waddock.
While with Wycombe, McClure played in the League Two play-off semi-finals and spent loan spells at Badshot Lea, Wealdstone, Burnham and Hayes & Yeading.
McClure stays and, more good news for fans, Shamir Fenelon has signed a new one-year contract with Aldershot. It will be the winger’s third season with the club.
The bad news? Will Evans has left Aldershot for pastures new. The out-of-contract defender, who had an outstanding season for the Shots, has signed a two-year contract with Chesterfield who have been relegated from League Two to the Vanarama National League.
It means that the Shots have lost both their regular centre-backs, with Callum Reynolds declining to sign a new contract.
• Aldershot have confirmed a third pre-season friendly with a visit to Nikki Bull’s Leatherhead on Saturday, July 14.
The Bostick Premier Division side appointed the former Aldershot goalkeeper as player-manager earlier this month.
