Fernhurst under-12 Terriers ended their season with a trophy with victory in the North East Hampshire Youth League Shield cup final.

Fernhurst produced a polished performance to seal a 5-0 win against Manor Colts Falcons in the final, which was held at Alton Football Club’s Anstey Park Enclosure.

The Terriers had knocked out Mytchett Athletic Hawks in the first round of the shield, Aldershot Lions in the quarter-finals and Tongham in the semi-finals to set up the final against Manor Colts Falcons.

After a fairly even first 15 minutes Fernhurst finally made the breakthrough with a goal from Freddie Harris, quickly followed by a second from Mateo Diego Haggins and a third just before half-time from Santiago Fenney.

The second half saw both teams play well, however Fernhurst managed to add two goals with one from Henry Knight and a goal of the season contender from Otto Heale towards the end to make the final score 5-0. Fernhurst also had a goal ruled out for offside after a well-worked set piece routine.

The Terriers were cheered on by a large and supportive crowd, and the trophy was lifted after the game by Fernhurst captain Dilan Lester-Smith.

The cup final capped an excellent season for the Terriers, who finished fourth in their division but battled near the top of the league until the final couple of matches.

Next season the team moves from nine-a-side up to 11-a-side football. If there are any children that might be interested in joining – who will be starting in Year 8 in September – their parents should contact Ben Knight on 07736 933650.
