GRAYSHOTT, without a game on Saturday, finish runners-up in I’Anson Division One, comfortably ahead of Frensham on points, if not wins.
Frensham had the satisfaction of doing the double over Grayswood, winning by two wickets on Saturday.
Frensham’s total of 175-8 hardly looked enough on the small Hollowdene ground, even though the outfield was damp and slow. James Wood supplied the cement of the innings with 47 and Cameron Kent took four wickets.
Grayswood never got going as Frensham cleverly took the pace off the ball. There were brief shows of aggression from Andy Major and Australian Rhys Dodson, but not enough to turn the game in the champions’ favour and they were bundled out for 99 in 30 overs.
Tilford signed off with a nine-wicket win over relegated Witley. Deciding to go out with a bang, Witley opted to bat first, but lost a wicket to the first ball and another in the next over, and by the time Jason Stones and Huw Town-Jones had finished their spells, the visitors were in disarray at 28-7. Adam Keane and Charlie Hunt added 38 in a spirited stand before Witley were all out for 74.
Andy Hall Hall wasted no time and hit nine fours and a six to finish 47 not out as Tilford raced home in the 13th over.
Between them, Town-Jones, Stones and Nigel Martyn have taken 111 Division One wickets this season, while Hall Hall, despite limited availability, has scored nearly 500 runs.
Cieran Spicer (5-29) and Ben Evans (3-25) did an excellent job for Chiddingfold who, deciding to bowl first, dismissed Dogmersfield for 115. Conditions were not easy and it took a careful 41 from Dean Spencer to make sure of a four-wicket victory.
Headley recovered from 36-4 to total 166-9 against relegated Pirbright, with Zach Benstead (38) and Harry Clarke (61) sharing a stand of 61. Ivan Wright took 4-28. Brett Flanegan’s 58 kept Pirbright in the hunt, but Stuart Smith (3-19) and Callum Hawtin eventually bowled Headley to victory.
Blackheath, without a Melhuish in sight, were bowled out for 100, with Puttenham using nine bowlers and Aks Ilyas doubling up as wicketkeeper. Puttenham opener James Andrews made 43, but the reigning champions flirted with defeat before Ilyas steered them to a three-wicket win.
Division Two champions Brook recorded their 18th win of the season at the expense of Harting. Alex Challinor (4-16) rattled through the late order to leave Harting all out for 108.
Brook were in a spot of bother against Guy Hewetson (3-21), but Paul Challinor steered them home in the 39th over.
Fernhurst, runners-up but not promoted, totalled 224 against Badshot Lea. Mark Charman made 57 and the tail wagged strongly. Tim Gray marshalled Badshot Lea’s late order in reply and the 10-man visitors were eventually all out for 176.
Hindhead were depleted by illness and their nine men battled well to reach 116 against Tongham, with Joe Harrison batting throughout for 55 not out. Tongham, with a rejigged batting line-up, slumped to 10-4, but a quickfire 70 from Tyler Carrington made it a comfortable victory in the end.
Shalford finished a disappointing season in style with a thumping win over Thursley. With a rock-solid 95 not out from Peter Unsworth and a fast 77 by Adam White, Shalford posted 250-5 and then dismissed Thursley for 158. Keith Tilson resisted long and hard for 55 and Dave Shilcock took 4-35.
Frensham II bowled out a sadly depleted Elstead side for 79 and knocked off the runs in 14 overs.
Grayshott II avenged an earlier loss with victory over The Bourne in a low-scoring game. Bourne scored 76 in 41 overs and the visitors lost seven wickets in getting the runs.
In Division Three, a dramatic four-run victory was not enough to give Grayswood II a place in the coveted top five. Oliver Arengo-Jones took 5-22 as Blackheath II dismissed Grayswood for 123, but Callan McIntyre’s own 5-22 proved a match-winning spell as the home side came up just short.
Dogmersfield II made sure of their place in the top five, thereby escaping relegation, with victory over Milford. A strong Dogmersfield side posted an unassailable 271-4, with opener Raza blasting 130. First-team paceman Miraj Shinwari then softened up the opposition for Jamal who took 6-38 and Milford were bowled out for 114, of which Gavin Parratt scored 29 and 49 were extras.
Also down are Headley II, despite finishing on a high note with a 59-run victory at Kingsley. A rash of dropped catches helped Headley reach 188-8 for 8 off their 45 overs, with Ian Neville making a fine 54. Kingsley, juggling their line-up, were unable to cope with Charlie Worman and Mike Hughes (4-27). Despite a good late knock by Adam Robinson (30), the home side were bowled out for 129.
Bramley won at Wood Street and leapfrogged their opponents into the runners-up spot. Ali Holmes and Alasdair White took four wickets apiece as Wood Street were hustled out for 96. Assisted by 30 extras, Bramley coasted to a six-wicket win in the 27th over.
Champions Tilford II, who can looked forward to Division Two next season, rattled up 230-6 against Grayshott III at Broxhead. Gavin Nesbitt rolled back the years with 74 and Hamish Macdonald made 38. There were no easy runs for Grayshott against an experienced attack and, batting 10 men, they were dismissed for 120.
