ALDERSHOT & F 2, TROJANS III 0

ALDERSHOT & Farnham Ladies showed their championship potential by knocking Trojans off the top of Hampshire Division? One at Heath End on Saturday.

A&F started a cold and wet day at the David Lloyd Club where they plotted the downfall of the Southampton side.

When the game got underway, Evie Kenna immediately drove into the Trojans D and forced a penalty corner in little more than 10 seconds.

It set the pattern as Aldershot took the game to their strong opponents, constantly turning Trojans over from hit-outs.

However, A&F could not capitalise on their attacks and, frustratingly, it remained 0-0 at half-time.

The second half began with another early short corner for the home side and Mel Sutherland scored the vital first goal with a drag-flick.

Trojans had a chance while it remained 1-0, but the game was settled later in the half when Emma Porter ‘tomahawked’ the ball across the D and Kenna’s deflection flew into the goal.

A&F worked tirelessly to win numerous short corners, but just could not covert and their routine is something they have to work on.

Generally, though, the 2-0 scoreline reflected the team’s best work, with all sections working extremely hard. The defensive four of Lauren Pestell, Phoebe Bryant, Hannah Sprake and Amy Robson worked so well that Trojans hardly entered the home D.

Katrina Hellier was awarded Player of the Match for her incredible running, while Mel Sutherland got DOD for receiving a green card.
