Petersfield Golf Club’s ladies secured a thrilling victory for the second year running in the Winter Triple involving Rowlands Castle and Blackmoor.

This was the first time Petersfield have managed two wins in succession in the trophy’s 26-year history.

The competition during the winter months involves three clubs playing three times at each other’s home venues.

In glorious sunshine, Rowlands Castle, who had replaced Liphook this year, hosted the last leg of the event and had a one-point lead after the first two matches at Petersfield in November and Blackmoor in January.

As the results of the St Andrew’s greensomes matches came in, there was an air of excitement as Petersfield had drawn level with Rowlands Castle, with only the final two matches involving both teams to finish.

Much to the Petersfield team’s delight, after the last card was handed in, they had won by a single point against the newcomers Rowlands Castle.

Petersfield Triple captain and ladies’ vice-captain Jennifer Neal thanked the other captains and teams for such a close competition, and Rowlands Castle for their kind hospitality.

This year the original trophy, a granite plaque, has been replaced with a new perpetual presentation shield which marks all the results of the past 26 years.

The competition was started by Petersfield player Maire Stradling to give local lady players a fun competition during the winter months.

The Petersfield team over the three matches were Jennifer Neal (captain), Lyn Criddle, Sandra Johnstone, Sandra Love, Sarah Gibson, Jenny Milner-Smith, Pene Salter, Brenda Vangrove, Annette Burgess, Heidi Oliver and Ann Saunders.

The reserves were Sue Gray and Lynda Hine.
