Farnham go karter Daniel Knight had a big crash in the national finals of Rob Smedley’s Total Karting Zero Summer Championship at Shenington Race Track – but the karting community have raised more than £1,100 to cover all the gear he needs to replace.

Knight had got up to fifth position, but as three karts competed on a corner he left the track and hit a bank, which flipped his kart on top of him.

Emergency crews were straight on the scene to rescue him. After the accident he went to A&E for assessments – which found bruising and a bad burn to his hand. The safety gear protected him, but his helmet and race suit were destroyed in the accident.

Knight has got all his new kit and is waiting for his hand burns to heal. He hopes to be fit for the next round at Whilton Mill on Sunday (November 5).
