FRIMLEY have fared poorly in the Aldershot Table Tennis League’s Handicap Cup competition.

The E team played out a 6-6 draw against Cody E, but ultimately lost on countback. The star player was John Asprey who won all his singles for Cody. Steve Chapman and Ramesh Vasudevamurthy both won two singles for Frimley, but the final doubles settled the outcome, Cody winning by just a point and a half to square the match and take the win on countback, 351-345.

The club’s B team travelled to Tennis G and started well as Pete Good won his first singles. Team-mate John Eade won all his singles, but an injury to Good in his first doubles cost Frimley the match. He was unable to continue and had to concede his other two singles and doubles. Tennis came through 7-5, having won just three matches completed on the table.

The other two matches were settled more convincingly. Bruce McPherson was unbeaten and David Thomas and Stuart Stone won two apiece in support as Cody C easily defeated Ash A.

Crawley Ridge A recorded an equally emphatic win over Tennis B, with Corin Moore and Derek Lee unbeaten on the night.

Fleet B, who have yet to win in the league, edged past Cody D 5-4 in the Div III Cup, thanks to a maximum from Rob Brook. Andrew Blunden won twice, as did Cody’s John Sheehy.

Russell Gibbs and Corin Moore were unbeaten as Crawley Ridge A saw off Ash D 5-1.

In the Div IV Cup, Tennis H narrowly beat a strong Braybrooke B by 5-4. Michael Wolfe starred for Tennis with a maximum and John Page supported with a double, only losing the final ‘dead’ singles. Kenny Duarte won two for Braybrooke.

Ash C reached the Div II Cup semi-finals with a 6-2 win over Frimley C. Frank Winnard won all his matches, while Nigel Tustin took the two that he played.

Central B whitewashed Tennis C in the Div I Cup, the victorious trio being Neil Martin, Andy Appleby and Martin Townshend.
