The ladies’ section at Blackmoor Golf Club have once again been busy fundraising, this time turning the club pink in support of Breast Cancer Now!

The generosity of club members raised a total of £1,369.11 for the charity which provides world-class research and life-changing care to people affected by breast cancer.

To raise funds, members participated in several golf competitions and luncheons with entry fees donated to the charity.

Golfers from all sections of the club joined in the fun and were encouraged to wear pink to show their support for the disease which affects men and women.

Lady captain Fran Berriman said: “The ladies’ committee were blown away by the generosity from club members, particularly given the current economic uncertainty.

“We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer and we hope the money raised will go towards making a difference to the lives of people affected by the disease.”

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer in women in the UK with around 55,000 women and 370 men diagnosed with the disease every year. During this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month in November, nearly 5,000 people received the shattering diagnoses of breast cancer.

Fran said: “A huge thank you to everyone at Blackmoor for helping us to raise the money and provide support for Breast Cancer Now.”

The total raised by Blackmoor of £1,369.11 was presented by lady captain Fran Berriman and vice-captain Sarah Mulhall.

Through continued support, breast cancer survival is improving. In the 1970s, four in ten women diagnosed with breast cancer survived their disease beyond ten years. Now it’s around eight in ten.
