Alresford Town 2, Fleet Town 1
SUPER sub Sam Tonks scored a dramatic late winner with his first touch of the ball to send the Magpies flying six points clear at the top of the Wessex Premier Division at Arlebury Park last night.
Tonks sealed a come-from-behind win after Fleet had led through a Jake Hammond goal on 11 minutes before Liam levelled for the home side on 65 minutes.
The late winner made it two victories in five days for an Alresford side which has led the league for some time now but is coming under increasing pressure from a host of sides chasing promotion.
Last Saturday, new striker Ollie Dennett made it five goals in two games as leaders Alresford Town cemented their position at the top of the table with a 3-0 win over Amesbury Town on Saturday.
But they had to dig deep as Amesbury thwarted the Magpies for 70 minutes.
Dennett scored twice in the last ten minutes to go with his hat-trick eight days earlier at Tadley Calleva to put some gloss on the scoreline after Duarte Martins had opened the scoring with 20 minutes to go against a stubborn Amesbury side.
The win leaves the Magpies three points ahead of AFC Stoneham, who beat Baffins Milton Rovers 2-0, but the second-placed side have two games in hand.
On Saturday, the Magpies travel to Dorset to face a Shaftesbury side who have hit the skids in recent weeks, losing three games on the trot and shipping 15 goals in the process.
*Alresford Town face Combined Counties League Premier Division side Camberley Town at Krooner Park in the second round of the Aldershot Senior Cup next Tuesday, January 28. The winners will face either Hartley Wintney or Ashford Town.
