COBHAM 5, FARNHAM TN 0
FARNHAM gave certainly their worst performance of the season on Tuesday as they were unceremoniously dumped out of the CCL Premier Challenge Cup, a competition they won two seasons ago.
Cobham are third in Division One, having lost only once this season, and Premier side Farnham looked like pulling rank at first as they pressured the home team for 15 minutes. The final touch was missing again, though, and some contentious decisions by the officials seemed to knock Farnham off their stride
With Town seemingly unable to deal with simple balls over the top, Cobham took one of several decent chances, Toby Mbu scoring the first of his hat-trick, to lead 1-0 at half-time.
Farnham should have been able to pull it round in the second half, but the defence and midfield were at sixes and sevens and Cobham created chance after chance.
Farnham made several substitutions in an attempt to stop the rot, but a rampant Cobham took their tally to five and, in truth, should probably have reached double figures, such was the disarray in the Town ranks.
Goals from Martin Weighill and Chris Davis put the game to bed before Mbu struck twice more in the last ten minutes.
Farnham have to regroup quickly before the visit to Balham this Saturday.
“A point was the best we could have hoped for on Saturday, but this loss was probably our lowest moment of the season,” said manager Paul Tanner.
“We are dramatically down in concentration, confidence and ability. Injuries and sickness haven’t helped over the last four weeks, but that is no real excuse.”
FARNHAM 0, SUTTON COMMON ROVERS 1
A MATT Farrell strike on 12 minutes was enough to give high-flying Sutton Common all three points on Saturday.
Farrell scored after neat play by Daryl Cooper-Smith and Matt Auletta, and Farrell went close with an overhead shot soon after.
Generally, though, this was a tight encounter between two committed sides on a sticky pitch, with neither goalkeeper seriously troubled after Sutton’s early breakthrough.
