WINCHESTER CITY 4, ALRESFORD TN 3
ALRESFORD gave Southern League side Winchester City a run for their money before bowing out of the Hampshire Senior Cup on Tuesday.
City led 3-1 deep into the second half at the Denplan Ground, but the Magpies drew level with two quick goals and only minutes remained when Pat Cox scored his second of the match to send Winchester through to the semi-finals.
Craig Harding equalised after Oli Bailey had put Winchester in front. It remained one apiece at half-time, but City then seemed to take full control as Rob Carr restored the lead and then Cox converted a penalty.
But Alresford, having a poor January in the league, stormed back with goals from Emmanuel Yeboah and Sam Burt.
Extra time was looming fast when Cox came up with an 89th-minute winner for Winchester.
Alresford now have two home league matches in succession – Baffins Milton this Saturday and Newport (IoW) on Tuesday.
• Rock-bottom Petersfield Town have a tough assignment on Saturday when they visit Andover, the runaway Sydenhams League leaders. Petersfield’s home game with Brockenhurst was called off on Saturday, as was Horndean’s home fixture with Fareham. Horndean visit Portland this Saturday.
