GLORIOUS weather, was matched by the excellent football at Badshot Lea FC Colts annual tournament at Weybourne Recreation Ground and an extra thrill for the youngsters was a guest appearance by Premiership footballer Joe Ralls.
This was the biggest ever Badshot Lea tournament, with 138 teams entered. Teams in age groups from U8 to U18 competed over the two days, with cups for all age groups, and there were also games for U6 and U7 sides.
Other attractions include a food-and-drink kitchen, football speed gun competition and ‘shoot the manager’ challenge where the highest score won a World Cup 2018 football. It was a day out for the whole family.
Joe Ralls, a midfielder for Cardiff City, turned up to support his first club. He now plays at the highest level and has been selected for England U19s during his career, but not many people know that he started his football with Badshot Lea Colts and it was great to see him back.
The tournament was a big success for both club and the players, and they are already looking ahead to next year’s event.
• Badshot Lea Colts host their annual Family Fun Day at Weybourne Rec on Sunday, July 1. Apart from the presentation of trophies to the players, there will be stalls and events for the whole family, while renowned football freestyler and television presenter Charlotte Lade will hold workshops throughout the day.
