Farnham Town made it back-to-back wins with a 2-0 victory at home to former Football League outfit Torquay United in the National League South.

Second-half goals from Darryl Sanders and Rakish Bingham fired the Town to all three points in front of a bumper bank holiday crowd at The Memorial Ground.

The Town had the first effort at goal of the afternoon in the 15th minute, when Jack Dean’s cross was headed straight at Torquay keeper Toby Savin by Sanders.

Farnham went close again on 27 minutes when Trae Cook-Appiah got on the end of a ball over the top and slipped a pass to Bobby-Joe Taylor, whose left-footed effort across goal went wide of the far post.

Torquay created a good opportunity on the half-hour mark when Jordan Young’s delivery from a free-kick found Deon Moore, whose header sailed over the bar.

The Town nearly scored in the 35th minute when Sanders set the ball for Jack Spong, whose curling effort from just outside the box went over the bar.

Farnham had another opportunity four minutes later when Taylor let fly from 25 yards out, but his left-footed strike was well held by Savin.

The visitors had the next attempt at goal on 41 minutes, but Young dragged his left-footed shot well wide of the right-hand post.

The Gulls had another chance to score just before the break when Moore’s right-footed effort from a tight angle was tipped over the bar by Farnham keeper Michael Eacott.

Farnham manager Paul Johnson made one substitution at half-time, with Bingham replacing Cook-Appiah.

The Town nearly scored in the opening minute of the second half when Taylor slipped a pass to Sanders, whose low right-footed shot towards the far corner was well held by Savin.

Torquay went close in the 59th minute when Moore spun sharply on the edge of the box and fired his left-footed effort over the bar.

Farnham took the lead on the hour mark when Sanders whipped in a cross from the left which found the far corner of the net after Torquay defender Tyler Hill and Savin both left the ball.

The Gulls nearly got back on level terms on 67 minutes when Hill’s header across the six-yard box found Callum Morton, whose effort from a tight angle hit the side netting.

Torquay went close again eight minutes later when Kian Jenkins cut the ball back from the left to Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, whose effort took a deflection and was superbly saved by Eacott.

Johnson made his second substitution of the afternoon in the 77th minute, with Mat Mackenzie replacing Sanders.

The Town doubled their advantage on 79 minutes when Billy Clifford drove into the box and passed inside to Bingham, who clinically slotted his finish into the bottom right-hand corner of the net past Savin.

Johnson made a double change in the 87th minute, with Ryan Kinnane and Sam Evans replacing Owen Dean and Clifford.

The Gulls tried to find a way back into the game, but the Town saw out the closing stages to earn their third win of the season and make it nine points from their first six league games.

Next up for Farnham is a trip to Hemel Hempstead Town in the National League South on Saturday, September 5 (3pm kick-off).
