ALTON FC 3, ROMSEY TOWN 2
ALTON snatched all three points with two goals in the last five minutes at The Enclosure on Saturday.
Romsey seemed to have the measure of the 3G pitch with the amount of possession and chances they had, but the Brewers were more clinical with their finishing when it really mattered.
Callum Burch headed Alton into a lead which they clung onto at half-time. Near the hour mark, Wayne Boud equalised for Romsey with a close-range header, and a point apiece seemed the likeliest outcome.
However, in the 82nd minute Josh Harvey put Romsey in front, following a corner, and it seemed that the visitors would take the spoils.
But Alton never gave up and with a minute of normal time left, Mark Taylor headed home a driven cross from Ashley Peck.
Two goals apiece, and it seemed game over, but Romsey hearts were broken with the last action of the game.
In the fourth minute of injury time, a Sean Hayes free-kick deflected up off a defender and Taylor’s header looped over the keeper for the winner.
The win taken Alton past Romsey in the Sydenhams League Division One table and the Brewers will want to build on this result when they visit bottom-of-the-table Andover New Street this Saturday.
