IT was a mismatch as top met bottom in I’Anson Division Three, Farncombe beating Headley II by 10 wickets.

The visitors lost an important toss, but battled hard to make it to the end of their 48 overs. David Bentley (22) batted nicely and Ben Homewood played some fine aggressive shots in his quickfire 44 off 39 balls. But Headley were unable to accelerate in the later overs against accurate bowling and were held to 146-5. Wes Pusey and Lee Hudson were the pick of Farncombe’s attack in a disciplined display.

That contrasted sharply with Headley’s efforts with the ball as Ryan Luff and Matt Jaggard made untroubled progress towards the target. Luff was in imperious form and dispatched the bowling all round the ground on his way to 87 not out. Jaggard gave one sharp chance in his unbeaten 48 and the openers wrapped up the 18 points in 21 overs.

Blackheath II rose to second in the table after a convincing win at Harting. Put in to bat, the hosts batted out 48 overs, but only Simon Kyte looked comfortable against good bowling. Ben Hodges impressed with 4-22 in 10 overs.

Andy Wadey took a quick wicket when Blackheath replied, but Ian Nolan (33) and Ross Sibley got the scoreboard moving. Sibley’s excellent 79 not out sealed an eight-wicket victory in the 26th over.

Nathan Kemp scored 57 for Midhurst at The Bourne, but the home side bowled well and Mark Budd’s 4-41 in 14 overs included a memorable hat-trick as the visitors were contained to 156 all out in the 47th over.

But Bourne never threatened to overhaul the modest total in tricky batting conditions and miserly spells from Tim Dixon, Kemp and Sean Kearney restricted them to 116-7.

There was also a hat-trick at Shalford, but it was not enough to swing the game Thursley’s way. Opener Hadi (69) and Fizan (35) played good innings for Thursley, but the other batsmen contributed very little in a modest total of 119. David Rowe did most of the damage with 5-39.

Peter Unsworth (38) took Shalford to a comfortable 85-1 in reply. Tayyab’s spell of 4-25, including the hat-trick, came too late to deny Shalford the 18 points.

Hindhead kept their unbeaten run going with a hard-earned draw at Wood Street. Electing to bowl on a greenish track, Hindhead reduced the home side to 60-5, but Archie Chudley (23) and James Grist (34 not out) supported captain Jacob Slyfield who made an excellent 65 not out and Wood Street recovered to declare on 193-6.

Brothers Mark and David Babb took Hindhead to 49-1, but then wickets fell regularly and when Mark Babb was caught behind for 32, they were six down and in trouble. Newcomer Will Hams impressed with 35, but it fell to number 11 Arpan Painter to keep out the last three balls and secure six important points for Hindhead. James Grist took 4-38 in 10 overs.

Ten-man Bramley ran up a decent total of 165 against Dogmersfield II, Nick Hyett leading the way with 53. Dogmersfield seemed to be facing certain defeat as Ali Holmes and James Money reduced them to 66-7. But O’Hara (46) and Fazaii (52 not out) shared a match-winning stand and the visitors won by two wickets.
