Surrey have signed Indian seamer Auqib Nabi for their next three County Championship matches as they battle to stay in Division One.

The 29-year-old has been selected to make his Surrey debut in this week’s home game against Yorkshire.

Nabi will also be available for next week’s trip to Hove to face Sussex, before finishing his time at Surrey with another home match at the Kia Oval against Glamorgan.

Surrey, who were County Championship runners-up last season and won three successive titles between 2022 and 2024, have won only one of their first ten match this summer and are just three points above the relegation zone.

Nabi was recently called up to the India squad for their Test series against Sri Lanka having represented the India A side earlier this summer.

He received his international call-up having been named player of the tournament in India’s premier red-ball competition, the Ranji Trophy, in 2025-26.

Representing Jammu & Kashmir, the seam bowler took 60 wickets at an average of just over 12.5 runs per wicket, including a five-wicket haul in the Ranji Trophy final and nine wickets in the semi-final.

He has more than 100 wickets across the past two Ranji Trophy tournaments and has been the standout non-capped quick bowler. In 2025, he also took four wickets in four balls for the North Zone in India’s Duleep Trophy – a regional red-ball competition.

His red ball exploits led to him being signed by Delhi Capitals in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, and he played five matches for the franchise in this year’s IPL.

Alec Stewart, Surrey’s director of men’s cricket, said: “With the exceptionally challenging schedule of six games in six weeks, with minimal recovery between matches along with international fixtures, we’ve had to add options to our bowling stocks for the County Championship run in.”
