TEENAGE medium-pacer Jack Campbell produced two decisive new-ball spells for Hampshire’s age-group sides.
He ripped out Andover’s middle order with a 4-25 return which set up a first Southern Premier League victory for the Hampshire Academy on Saturday.
Twenty-four hours later, the lanky left-armer wrecked Worcestershire’s top order with a 4-15 spell, helping Hampshire to a 109-run win in the county’s opening ECB U17 Cup match at May’s Bounty.
Campbell, who cut his teeth in Steep’s junior ranks before moving to play for Liphook & Ripsley is making encouraging progress in Hampshire’s Emerging Player Programme.
Coach James Tomlinson, the former Hampshire pace bowler, said: “Jack is developing through hard work during the winter. He has made himself available for everything, training, nets, first and second team and is now understanding what is required and expected at a higher level.”
Campbell, who holds joint registration for Hampshire and Liphook & Ripsley, is at the EIHC Academy which is run by the Rose Bowl. It’s basically a sixth-form course which is mainly focused around cricket.
