AFTER reaching ten out of ten (wins), I’Anson Division Three leaders Tilford II merited perhaps two out of ten for a crushing defeat at Kingsley on Saturday.
Tilford had a strong top order, but struggled to force the pace against the Coopers, Oli and Steve, and Nick Randall. Skipper Martin Cantwell made 27, but no-one else reached 20 and a devastating spell by third-change bowler Nick Booth (5-17) left the visitors all out for a meagre 86 in 36 overs.
Kingsley had no such problems as openers Sam Parrott and Matt Cooper settled down to the task. Rick Austin had Cooper caught for 40 and that was Tilford’s lone success as Parrott (30 not out) and Wayne Moulds saw Kingsley to victory in 22 overs.
Second-placed Bramley were held to a draw by Headley II (match played at Shalford). Ali Holmes (53) was in good touch for Bramley, but wickets for Charlie Worman and Paul Kelly rocked them back. However, sensible lower-order batting from Ed Turner (41), Ed Evans and Jon Vocking took Bramley to a decent 199 all out in the 45th over.
Bramley seamers Dan Burstow, Rory Brooks-Kent and Holmes all bowled miserly spells and Headley made slow progress. Marc Hawtin was more aggressive and shared a good stand with Dom Johnson. However, skipper Johnson was caught in the deep and when Hawtin fell to Burstow for 53, Headley had to knuckle down to play out the draw, which they did with seven wickets down. Burstow recorded outstanding figures of 4-7 off 12 overs.
Grayswood II staged a dramatic recovery after being 34-3 at Milford. They finally posted a formidable 250-9, thanks mainly to a blistering 102 not out off 56 balls from Callan McIntyre who looked rather too good for this division. Coming in at number 7, he plundered his second century in three games, hitting 14 fours and two sixes. Ross Donaldson made 54 in quick time and Grayswood left themselves 46 overs to dismiss the home side.
They required only 31 overs. Milford were never in the hunt and only Mike Payne got going, making 34 before being stumped. Tejas Gandhi (3-14 in 8.5 overs) and Simon Nobes shared six wickets and Milford were bowled out for 119.
Some good bowling by Wood Street had Dogmersfield II all out for a modest 120, with no-one reaching 20. Jake Slyfield bowled particularly well, taking 3-27 in his 14 overs, seven of them maidens.
Dan Saunders (31) and Neil Lunn (31) shared a free-scoring opening partnership for Wood Street. Malik hit back with some quick wickets, but Slyfield and James Grist (34 not out) counter-attacked and Wood Street got the runs in 19 overs.
Grayshott III totalled what seemed a modest 148 at Broxhead, but it proved enough to beat bottom team Puttenham II. The Owens, Ross (31) and Barry (22) scored valuable runs in the late order as Grayshott reached a defendable score, despite some fine bowling by veteran Paul Crouch (5-24 in 14 overs).
Puttenham looked on course for victory while Simon Bone (34) and Adam Calver were together. The Owens got amongst the wickets and Martin polished off the visitors with 3-9 in 5.1 overs.
