FARNHAM College student Ella Chandler has been selected for the cricket squad at the 2018 School Games – a national multi-sport event for the UK’s most talented school-age athletes, taking place at Loughborough University from August to 30 to September 2.

Sixteen-year-old Ella, a member of Aldershot Cricket Club, will play for Team Knight.

Over 1,400 youngsters will compete across 11 sports, including five disability disciplines, at the School Games.

Four new sports have been introduced for this Games: canoeing and rowing, laser run, netball and triathlon.

The athletes will be able to experience high-level competition in a multi-sport environment, similar to the Olympics and Paralympics.

Ella will be following in the footsteps of some of Britain’s biggest sporting stars, including Paralympic champions Hannah Cockroft, Ellie Simmonds and Jonnie Peacock, Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty, heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and sprinter Adam Gemili.

She will live in a dedicated athletes’ village on the Loughborough campus, take part in the School Games ceremony and perform in front of huge crowds.

The 2018 School Games are supported by National Lottery funding from Sport England.
