Alton Cricket Club welcomed the Vitality T20 Blast and Charlotte Edwards Cup trophies to the Jubilee Playing Fields.

Alton will have to wait for their return to the Southern Premier Cricket League Premier Division as their curtain-raiser against Bashley on Saturday fell foul of the weather. Alton will travel to Havant tomorrow (Saturday).

After a wonderful end to the 2022 season Alton have been busy over the winter months. The first team line-up for the Bashley match included four debutants.

Lord Wandsworth College skipper Sam Ruffell has joined from Farnham.

The hard-hitting, classy-looking top-order batter will look to add to Alton’s batting armoury. Young fast bowler Tom Varney has joined from Totton & Eling. Originally from Aldershot CC, Tom is a strong addition to Alton’s bowling line-up for 2023.

Off-spinner and batter Dan Sumner has joined from Sparsholt, after pitting his trade against the Brewers last year. The final new addition sees all-rounder Tom Andrews join from Binfield. The former Binfield skipper brings a wealth of experience with bat and ball.

Alton’s second string had a tough season in 2022 but have recruited Australian all-rounder Ben Rolfs.

Rolfs is friend of former Alton overseas Dan Hutton and has joined from Melbourne University. The young Australian has come over to England for work.

The Brewers’ second string also welcome back Dan Scott, who has returned after a long time out with injury. With the new additions, Alton’s second team will look to push up the Hampshire League Division One table this year.

With the addition of these new players Alton hope this will strengthen the whole club – from the first team to the fourth team.

The Brewers are looking forward to an exciting season – if the sunshine arrives.
