ADAM White continued to fly the flag for Chawton Park Indoor Bowling Club last weekend, competing in zone 15 of the national two-wood singles.

Played over one day at Bournemouth IBC, White registered five wins to finish with a 21-9 victory over local rival Duncan Rogers of Loddon Vale.

White will be one of 16 qualifiers from all over England to play at Melton Mowbray in March.

In the national O60s singles, Chawton’s Graham Robinson beat Steve Whitehead (Banister Park) 21-14, while Robinson, Robert Hutchinson, Charlie Spear and Gary Johnson were comfortable 18-9 winners over Chas Swift’s Riverside quartet in the O60 fours.

Basa Smith and Dave Turner unceremoniously took out the strong Banister duo of Cliff Higgins and Brian Barber in the O60 pairs.

It was not all good news for Chawton, though. Margaret Holden and Adam White fell at the final hurdle in their quest to reach the national mixed finals, losing to the in-form pairing of Jean Arnaud and Ben Paulley (Bournemouth IBC).

No less than seven Chawton pairs took part in the Hampshire mixed pairs, with three combinations winning on the road. Lesley and Gary Johnson and Basa Smith and Brenda Plumpton recorded comfortable wins at Banister Park, while Alice Atwell and Mark Fyfield were successful at East Dorset. Brian Scowcroft/Margaret Leppard and Margaret Holden/Adam White won at home against Riverside. Sue Murray/David Sims received a walkover, but Kate Fyfield/Dave Atwell lost to Palmerston IBC.

Mark Fyfield, despite a late rally, lost 16-21 to Gary Lovett (Loddon Vale) in the Hampshire singles. However, Dick Holden, Nathan Beeson and Adam White were comprehensive winners against Loddon in the triples. Gregg Roberts, David Sims and Dave Atwell lost narrowly, 12-15, against Palmerston.

In the U25 singles, Danny Brown came away from Loddon Vale with a 21-3 win over Zak Miller.

Brenda Plumpton’s rink won an all-Chawton affair against David Sims’ side in the mixed fours. Adam White’s rink defeated Loddon Vale, but Gary Johnson’s side lost to Atherley.

Sue Murray, Beryl Collier, Margaret Holden and Margaret Leppard recorded an excellent win over a battle-hardened Victory rink, led by Kath Patrick, in the Hampshire ladies’ fours.

Beryl Collier, Margaret Holden and Margaret Leppard defeated Atherley IBC both in the three-wood and two-wood triples.

In friendly matches, Chawton recorded wins against Tongham and Rushmoor, but went down to Old Basing, Loddon Vale and Three Counties Fellowship. All good games, though.
