A cheque for £6,241.07 has been presented to St Michael’s Hospice by the 2022 captains of Worldham Golf Club.

The amount was raised not only by club members at charity events throughout the year but also by donations from outside the club, including a local estate agent and families in memory of those who have been at the hospice.

Our picture shows hospice head of fundraising Sarah Shearman, second from left, receiving the cheque from seniors’ captain Graham Bowden, club captain James Foulkes and ladies’ captain Lesley Hutchinson.

They heard Sarah tell members it costs £5.8 million per year to run the hospice and it has to raise more than £4m each year as its grants amount to only 16 per cent of its expenditure.

She added: “It means we are very grateful to clubs and organisations like yourselves who choose us as their charity.

“This is a tremendous amount, especially at a time when money is tight all round and people do not necessarily have any spare for charity.”

Sarah outlined the hospice’s services, which include end-of-life care, home care, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and help for relatives.

Worldham’s 2023 captains Andrew Cunliffe, Gina Smith and Mike Adams also chose St Michael’s Hospice as their charity for the year.
