Residents in Lower Street, Haslemere, are being shaken out of their beds by traffic hitting the ever-increasing number of potholes outside their homes.

Councillor Terry Weldon, chairman of Haslemere Town Council’s planning committee, said Lower Street was suffering from a “convergence of traffic volumes, speed and potholes”.

He added one Lower Street resident told him he could always tell when potholes are getting worse because “the houses along the street tend to vibrate when there’s heavy traffic – and the vibrations get worse as the potholes do”.

Last November, Haslemere Town Council voted to press Surrey County Council for a 20mph limit in Lower Street as well as High Street and Weyhill. Cllr Weldon says some residents have since requested that further streets be covered by the new limit.
