EAST Hampshire MP Damian Hinds and district councillor Angela Glass, together with Liphook’s British Legion chairman Lt Col James Jack, launched this year’s Poppy Appeal at Sainsbury’s store.

The Conservative MP said: “I’m always impressed by the generosity of local communities across East Hampshire and this is no exception.

“As well as remembering the fallen from the two world wars, we have a whole new generation of veterans now and the work done by the Royal British Legion to support them is fantastic.”

Mrs Glass, who kept up tradition by purchasing the first poppy of the day, was part of a team of volunteers present at the launch, which also included members of the Liphook sub-branch – Col John Boyd, Tony Rudgard, Terry Burns and Bob Hall, supported by Sainsbury’s store’s manager Stu Purdey.

A range of merchandise is on sale at the supermarket in Midhurst Road, until Saturday, November 12, and customers can also make a donation by rounding up their bill at any of the tills.

This year’s Remembrance Service will be held on at St Mary’s Church Bramshott, on Sunday, November 13, starting at 10.30am. Wreaths will be laid at the War Memorial in honour of those who have fallen.
