It is game on for Grayswood pupils, who could soon have a new place to play.

The school has applied for permission for a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) with artificial grass, enclosed by a 3m-high fence.

And there is a good reason for that extra-high barrier: to stop footballs flying over onto the neighbouring recreation ground.

The school says its current tarmac playground is “far from ideal” for sport, with balls escaping and concerns over retrieving equipment and safeguarding pupils.

The new MUGA would provide a dedicated space for PE lessons and playtime, helping pupils stay active while keeping the balls where they belong.

The MUGA would sit on existing hardstanding within the Green Belt and Surrey Hills National Landscape, but consultants D&M Planning Ltd say it would not harm the landscape.
