The reserved matters application for a 5.73-acre site known as Bordon Parcel 4.1 is a revision of an earlier proposal to construct 84 homes there.
There will be 24 two-bedroom, 48 three-bedroom, 17 four-bedroom and two five-bedroom homes. There will be 13 affordable houses.
The previous plan did not include any two-bedroom homes. It proposed 51 three-bedroom, 15 four-bedroom and 18 five-bedroom ones.
The site, which previously contained the old Havannah officers’ mess, is bounded to the west and north by the new A325, and by Oakhanger Road leading into Station Road to the south.
Access is from Station Road, and the Green Loop footpath and cycle path linking the regeneration area to the rest of town is proposed to run through the southern edge.
Woodland between this site and the neighbouring Bordon Parcel 4.2 will be retained and includes a woodland play area. There will be a total of 201 parking spaces for residents and 15 for visitors.
Committee chairman Cllr Sally Pond, who has lived in Whitehill & Bordon for more than 55 years, said: “I very much like what I have read in the application. There is permission already for 84 homes. I think the changes made improve upon that.”
Cllr Neville Taylor added: “I think it’s a brilliant development, similar to the one next door. It’s of high quality.”
And Cllr Keith Budden said: “I think this application has done the increase in homes extremely well. To see a site that has increased visitor parking is very welcome and hopefully may be an exemplar for the future.”
Cllr Nick Drew said: “I’m pleased at the increase in two-bedroom houses at the expense of five-bedroom ones. There is an increased need in East Hampshire for two and three-bedroom properties and this helps with that.”
