Photographer Malcolm Wells was at Royal Ascot on Tuesday to capture the best of the racing action, royalty and fashion on display.

It is the first Royal Ascot since the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and King Charles III and Queen Camilla attended for the first time in their new roles.

The King and Queen's day at the races began with a traditional carriage procession – with Princess Anne later joining them in the royal box.

The highlight of the day’s racing saw Paddington win the Prince of Wales’s Stakes to give trainer Aidan O’Brien a record 83rd victory at Royal Ascot.

But there was controversy too as racing royalty Frankie Dettori was handed a nine-day ban for careless riding when finishing fifth on the King’s horse Saga in the Wolferton Stakes.

Dettori has announced he is retiring this year.

Hollie Doyle also became the first woman to ride a top-level Group One winner at Royal Ascot as Bradsell stormed to victory in the King’s Stand Stakes.

The week’s racing has passed without delay after activists Animal Rising said they would not disrupt the meeting.

Royal Ascot continues until Saturday – see https://www.ascot.com/horse-races-and-events/royal-ascot/overview for more information and tickets.
