CHILDREN at St Polycarp’s Catholic Primary School were thrilled to meet Paralympic gold medallist Kylie Grimes.

Despite her extremely hectic post-Paralympic schedule, the gold medallist wheelchair rugby player agreed to visit the school and share her experience of Tokyo and the delayed 2020 Paralympics with the pupils.

Everyone was keen to learn more about the inside story of being a high-performance athlete and competing at one of the most coveted sporting events in the world.

In addition to discussing the challenges of being a Paralympian, Kylie offered glimpses of her Paralympic journey. From sleeping on a cardboard bed in Tokyo – which was the greenest games yet – to her 13-year journey to Tokyo, it was a real insight.

The pupils listened to her story and were left inspired by the experience and the rare opportunity to meet a Paralympic gold medallist.
