ROAD users are being advised that the A3 will be closed northbound between Longmoor and Milford this weekend to carry out significant resurfacing work.

The road will be closed from 9pm on Friday, May 15 until 6am on Monday, May 18.

A weekend closure is required as the work being carried out is full-depth resurfacing of the carriageway, with the A3 being rebuilt in layers, with each layer needing time to cure and harden.

This will renew the road to an ‘as new’ condition and help prevent future potholes.

The southbound carriageway will remain open during the weekend.

Local northbound journeys between Liphook and Hindhead will still be possible, but the northbound Hindhead Tunnel will be closed.

The northbound A3 along the same stretch will then be closed over five nights starting on Monday, May 18 between 9pm and 6am to resurface a section at Bramshott.

During the closures a signed diversion will be in place from the Longmoor junction, via the A325 and the A31 Hogs Back.

Access for emergency service vehicles on blue light calls will be maintained during the closures.

A Highways England spokesman said: "At present, traffic flows across the country are significantly reduced and we hope this will reduce disruption along the diversion route.

"However, road users are advised to plan their journeys in advance or avoid the route if possible."

All Highways England sites have strict safeguarding measures to ensure the health of its workforce and prevent the spread of Covid-19.
