Haslemere Hospital's transformation has received another major boost after almost £190,000 was pledged for new heart diagnostic equipment and improvements to patient facilities.

The League of Friends of Haslemere Hospital has agreed to spend around £188,000 on a package of projects designed to expand services and improve care for local patients.

The largest share of the funding – around £132,000 – will pay for an echocardiogram machine, heart monitors and the latest ECG equipment as cardiology becomes the first service to be introduced under plans for the hospital's new Pro-Active Community Health Hub.

A further £55,000 has been committed to refurbishing the outpatient department. Treasurer Douglas Streatfield said the League had already paid £20,000 towards redecorating the unit, with another £35,000 funding renovations to create a new Point of Care area and complete the remaining improvements.

The investment comes as Haslemere Hospital continues to reshape its services following the closure of its inpatient wards. While the loss of beds sparked concern across the community, health leaders have said the hospital's future lies in delivering more specialist diagnostics, outpatient care and community health services closer to home.

League of Friends chair Rose Parry welcomed the latest investment.

She said: "It is an exciting time to see proposals for Haslemere Hospital to provide an array of services being delivered to meet the needs of the community. It is a pioneering opportunity for Haslemere, with new services being delivered for adults of any age."

The League of Friends is encouraging more people to support its work by becoming members or making donations to help fund future improvements at the hospital.
