I MENTIONED open mics recently in my column. One of the most talented acts to have played one of my nights recently is Omari Johnson-Daley. He will be playing a full set tonight (Thursday) at The Mulberry, Farnham. Entry is free.

If blues rock is your thing, then also tonight the band Siren play the Farnham Maltings cellar bar for Boogaloo Promotions. Tickets are £14 and more details are available by calling 01252 793430 or see www.boogaloopromotions.com

Guildford Jazz continues to put on the cream of the jazz world which means Herald readers and music fans don’t have to head to London and the cost that incurs.

One worth considering is when the National Youth Jazz Orchestra play at Surrey University on March 24. They will be featuring the music of Amy Winehouse.

This concert celebrates her enduring legacy and will include early works she sang with the 24-piece NYJO when she was 16 years old.

Definitely a gig to support and help ensure young people can develop their musical skills. Info on gigs and tickets at www.guildfordjazz.org.uk

A reminder that next Tuesday (March 15) Fleet Jazz Club present an evening of Latin music featuring singer Louise Clare Marshall. She is a singer with the Jools Holland Rhythm And Blues Orchestra. Tickets are £20 from The Harlington box office (01252 811009).

Next Wednesday (March 16) D3W3 are back with live music at Alton Rugby Club. The evening will feature Louise Coles, Morrison and Ian Roland. Entry is £5.

On Friday, March 18, Chris Bryant and band play at the Half Moon, Northchapel. Also Music At The Pottery is back that night and this time features Gavin Thomas, Ollie West, The Gillies and Anouska Assisi.

It is always a good evening of music where you are always going to discover some new music from quality acts.

It all takes place in the great location of Farnham Pottery with an attentive audience.

They also recently presented a cheque to Creative Response, a local charity they support. It’s normally a sell out so get a ticket before they’re gone!  Details are available at www.thefarnhampottery.co.uk

On March 19, Grayshott Folk Club are at Grayshott Village Hall with the Trials of Cato, who won the BBC Radio 2 Folk Album of The Year Award in 2019 for their debut album Hide & Hair.

Tickets are £16 (£8 for under-16s) and are available from Grayshott Post Office or from Des O’Byrne on 01428 607096.

Would you like to support and discover local music artists? You can by finding and following my Spotify playlist called Surrey Songwriters.

I feature one track each from around 70 local independent artists including Emma Stevens, Owen Paul, Ed Lee, Laura Loh, Neil Wells, Francis Greene, Telephone Road, Harry Baker, Downtown Roundabout and many more.

Put Surrey Songwriters into your search at Spotify and you will find it. You can then follow the artists you like through links to their music and social media pages.

Petersfield’s Shine Radio features local acts each Thursday from 9pm on Mandy P’s show (www.shineradio.uk).

Brian Player continues his folk, roots and acoustic music show each Tuesday at 8pm on Wey Valley Radio based in Alton, on 101.1FM or online at www.weyvalley.uk
