A Hindhead man is to appear at Guildford Crown Court next week accused of carrying out a campaign of coercive control and domestic violence against a woman in Farnham.
Dennis Smale, 39, of Glen Court in Hindhead, is charged with intentional suffocation, coercive control and causing actual bodily harm.
It is claimed he controlled his victim’s movement, destroying her clothing and medication, not letting her out without him, threatened her pets, and prevented her from contacting others between September 7 and 28, 2023.
It is also alleged Mr Smale intentionally suffocated the same victim, and assaulted her causing actual bodily harm on September 27, 2023.
Guildford Crown Court heard Mr Smale was in a relationship with his victim at the time the alleged offences took place, and they had a “serious effect” on the woman.
He has not yet entered any pleas, and has been remanded in custody to next appear at Guildford Crown Court on December 13.
