A bike thief from Alton has been ordered to stay drug-free for nine months after admitting stealing three bicycles worth more than £1,500.

Michael Jones, 31, of Link Road, Alton, admitted three counts of theft, one of going equipped for theft, and two counts of possessing Class A and B drugs at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on February 16.

It comes after he travelled to Arena Leisure Centre in Camberley on October 27, 2022, with two pairs of cable cutters and stole bicycles worth £475, £650 and £399.

Jones was also found to be in possession of two small bags of cocaine, and two small bags of herbal cannabis.

He pleaded guilty to all six charges, and was ordered to pay a total of £1,000 compensation and to undergo a rehabilitation activity for 25 days, as well as provide samples proving he is drug-free for nine months.
