There was great excitement in the  Fernhurst Hub when it unveiled its first Open Call Art Exhibition last week.

The hub showcased 54 pieces of artwork from 32 talented local artists in a wide variety of styles and media.

The Open Call Exhibition was the brainchild of Sarah Brown, a hub volunteer who recruited the help of fellow volunteer Annie Pritchard to organise the event.

Sarah said: "We had an overwhelming response, and the standard of work was exceptional.

"We then had the very difficult task of choosing the pictures to be included."

Annie said: "We wanted to exhibit at least one picture from each artist, and it certainly wasn’t difficult to fill the walls.  We are thrilled with the result.

"It was particularly good to know that for some people this was the first time they have had their work on show in a public place."

Several of the pictures have been created by members of the Fernhurst Art Group who meet twice a month in the Hub. One of the members, Angela Parrott, said: "It’s so good to have this opportunity to see our work on display for everyone to enjoy."

The exhibition is on until November 8 and all the work is for sale. Teas and cakes are also available for sale at the hub, so no matter what your taste, there is something to whet your appetite.
