THERE were joyful and triumphant scenes in Petersfield town centre last night as dozens gathered for a festive tradition in The Square.

The annual Carols in the Square service is one of the high notes of the town’s festive calendar.

Voices started warming up around 6pm with Revd Will Hughes leading a group of carol singers from various PACT churches around the town.

Attention switched to the Square at 7pm with the Salvation Army band providing the music to Oh Little Town of Bethlehem, Silent Night, Joy to the World and Hark! The Angels sing among others.

There were also readings with Revd Hughes giving a thought-provoking message on the theme of choices.

The service concluded with prayers led by PACT chairman John Callaghan of Life Church Petersfield with tea, coffee and mince pies being served afterwards in St Peter’s.
