A man was taken to hospital for “self-inflicted injuries” to his neck after being tasered by police at a home in Petersfield yesterday evening.

Hampshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following the incident around 5.40pm at a house on Grange Road.

A spokesperson confirmed that officers were called to a property amid concerns for the welfare of a woman, who was located and unharmed.

The spokesperson added: “Whilst at the address, a taser was discharged in order to safely detain a man in his 40s.

“The male was then taken to hospital for treatment for self-inflicted injuries to his neck.”

The spokesperson added: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent IOPC because the man sustained his injuries while police were in attendance.”
