LOCAL club Learn TKD-Alton hosted the second leg of the Vision Taekwondo Association 2017 Championships at Alton Sports Centre.

The entrants included 152 youngsters from 14 schools across Surrey, Hampshire, Sussex and Kent, plus, strangely, one competitor from Dubai.

Alton instructor and competition host Paul Adams entered students from all four of his schools (Alton, Aldershot, Guildford and Fleet) and was hoping several weeks of hard practice would pay off with good results.

Both coloured and black belts competed in junior and senior patterns, sparring, power tests and special technique events.

The Alton students stamped their authority in the various elements throughout the day, some achieving gold medals in all three of the categories.

And it was Alton who emerged overall winners with 22 gold medals, nine silvers and six bronzes, giving them a total of 90 points. Runners-up Tonbridge scored 79 and Crowborough finished third with 66.

The Alton children’s class, competing at Fleet, managed a respectable fourth place with 47 points.
