The recurring spells of wet and windy weather have included some interludes, allowing members of the Petersfield-based Sky Surfing Club to enjoy airtime.

Petersfield pilot Scott Heffield reported on one cold, crisp day on Harting Down. He said: “It was minus two and with brisk 15 to 20mph winds the conditions enticed only the brave or desperate out to fly, but eventually a small weather window opened.

“The wind dropped to 12mph so pilots had a couple of hours of cold but silky-smooth air, soaring 100ft above the hill. I was joined by Martin Ayers and Jan Henslow.

“A lucky few passengers also enjoyed tandem flights with Martin.”

Ranald Macaulay recalled an interlude on Butser Hill.

“The views from Butser, south to the Solent and the Isle of Wight were amazing,” he said.
