HASLEMERE Vets 2, Sunbury & Walton Vets 1. Haslemere Veterans took to their travels for a friendly game at Sunbury, with its constant stream of Heathrow-bound jets.

Haslemere, presently fourth in their league, have been playing some great hockey this season and central to this has been the return of skipper Jonathan Roy from injury, the many goals from Iain Lynch and Simon Prichard, and the athleticism and skill of midfielders Johnny Roberts, David Sewell, Brent Bottoms, Paul Saunders and Pip Wright.

Hugh Inman, Peter Ruben, Paul Kirkham, Peter Lawrence, Peter Williams, Peter Smith, Phil Jackson and keeper Peter Lindars have shored up the side with disciplined defence.

Welcoming back Mike Milne-Home, Haslemere played a new formation, using a sweeper to good effect.

After a goalless first half, Lynch scored to ease the pressure and then provided the cross for Roy to add a second before the Hawks pulled one back.
