HASLEMERE 2nd XI moved closer to mid-table in Hampshire 1 with this crushing win over City of Portsmouth.

Despite the Woolmer Hill pitch being bone-dry and a challenge for the short-corner team, Haslemere looked sharp and up for the challenge.

The students, frankly, were shambolic. Their kit was a mix of branded shirts and white t-shirts with felt-tip pen numbers, while their warm-up was more like a coconut shy. Haslemere could smell goals.

Charlie Millsom soon opened his account, and University heads immediately went down.

Haslemere were ruthless and it was 5-0 by half- time, with the students reduced to back-chat and stick tackles.

The pick of the first-half goals came from Zac Thomas with an acutely angled blast, while the combative Millsom completed a quickfire hat-trick.

The students managed a few short corners in the second half, but couldn’t get anything past Jake Willshire.

It finished seven-nil, with four to Millsom and one each for Will Hams, Jack Dennis and Thomas.
