HINDHEAD Golf Club’s junior team of Ben Bushnell (capt), Charlie Newman and Billy Tompkins have won the Surrey Junior Inter Club Knockout competition for the Christies Cup after a thrilling final against Foxhills at Walton Heath.
Hindhead now go on to represent Surrey at Woodhall Spa in the English Junior Club Championship next year.
The final was played in improving weather on the New Course at Walton Heath. Ben Bushnell scored a level-par 38 points off his 2 handicap. In the second match, Billy Tompkins (17 hcp) made some excellent saves from a series of wayward drives to score 37 points. Finally, Charlie Newman (20 hcp) finished strongly to secure another 38 points for the team and put the result beyond doubt.
“Congratulations to this great team who have played together in every round this year,” said James Newman, Hindhead’s junior organiser. “They have dovetailed brilliantly and have always had two good scores in each round to overcome some very strong opposition. I’m delighted that all three played great golf and they can be very proud of their performance and a great win for Hindhead juniors.”
