PHYLLIS Tuckwell Hospice Care has received a near-£10,000 boost thanks to Hankley Golf Club.

The money was raised by the club’s ladies’ and men’s sections, whose captains David Parsons and Jane Bathurst had chosen Phyllis Tuckwell as their charity of the year for 2019.

The money will go towards helping Phyllis Tuckwell provide supportive and end-of-life care for adult patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer.

David and Jane raised money on their captain’s days by both personally donating prizes for the golfing competitions and inviting members to make voluntary contributions.

They designated a captain’s wine and beer, to which a surcharge was applied raising more funds, and held a charity bridge day.

The ladies’ team also organised several raffles, and Jane instigated a new and brave fundraiser at one of the ladies’ events, by challenging each group of ladies to get closer than her to the pin on the second green – not many beat her and she helped boost the total raised by the club.

“We are honoured to have been chosen as both David and Jane’s captains’ charity for the past year,” said Charli Quay-Barnham, community fundraising manager at Phyllis Tuckwell.

“They held some wonderful fundraising events across the 12 months, which sounded great fun.

“We hope they enjoyed their year and thank them greatly for their fantastic end-of-year donation of more than £9,600.

“This money could pay for more than two months’ care from one of our Hospice Care at Homes nurses, who care for patients who have chosen to spend their last days at home, visiting them as needed and offering their families emotional support too.”
