THE GODALMING Run is back on the sporting calendar, taking place on Sunday, May 22 at the Phillips Memorial Park.

This year marks the event’s tenth anniversary and organisers are calling for runners of all ages and abilities to register for a 1k fun run, 5k, or 10k race online at godalmingrun.co.uk.

Sport Godalming is organising the run alongside the Waverley Harriers Running Club and Godalming Town, Waverley borough and Surrey county councils.

Once again, the event has been sponsored by Charterhouse School which is celebrating 150 years in the town.

All the proceeds will go to Sport Godalming, a registered charity, and are used primarily to continue its support of local athletes, particularly those bidding for Olympic stardom.

Michael O’Sullivan, vice-chairman of Sport Godalming, said: “It’s fantastic that the Godalming Run is coming back. We’ve all missed the event for the past two years and to celebrate its tenth anniversary we hope more people than ever before will sign up.

“The run was first established as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012 and to celebrate the London Olympics.

“It has become one of Surrey’s most popular running events, attracting hundreds of entrants year on year, and raising more than £20,000 which has been used to support our local athletes to train and fulfil their dreams.”

Neil Boosey from Waverley Harriers Running Club said: “We are delighted to support the Godalming Run again this year with lots of volunteers around the course and competing in the races.

“It is such a wonderful community event and we are calling on families, individuals, running groups and clubs to join in the fun.”

Runners will set off from the Phillips Memorial Park, with the 1k fun run beginning at 10am, the 10k at 10.30am and the 5k at 10.35am. The longer distances will be chip timed and there will be prizes for winners and medals for all runners.

Tim Ostle, commercial director of Charterhouse School, said: “The fun runners will enjoy a loop of the riverside park area before finishing back at the bandstand. The 5k and 10k routes head out along Borough Road to pick up the scenic River Wey riverside path before climbing into the grounds of Charterhouse School at Racquets Court Hill.

“Both routes will enjoy stunning views of the sachool as the 5k run reaches the top of Racquets Court Hill before dropping back down, while the challenging 10k run meanders through undulating woodland trails surrounding the school.

“Both courses merge once again on Peperharow Road to follow the river back into Godalming. Those competing in the 10k event will then branch up Westbrook Road before returning to Godalming from the back of the station, finishing at the Bandstand.”
