FARNHAM TN 4, COVE 0
FARNHAM moved into the top half of the table with a satisfying win against bottom side Cove at the Memorial Ground.
Town looked sluggish at the start, but Cove – still winless and pointless – never really troubled the home side at any point in the game.
However, Farnham were perhaps trying too hard to force the first goal and a little frustration crept into their play, especially when Cove went down to ten men after a straight red and still the breakthrough wouldn’t come.
Town, despite having nearly all the possession, struggled to break down two banks of four, so it was a great relief when James Thomas struck a great ball in from the right and opposite full-back Matt Graham was there to slide the ball home.
Farnham changed formation for the second half and brought on Sam Pedersen to give them more width. And the move paid off because it was Pedersen who doubled the lead on 65 minutes, with Graham this time the provider.
Manager Paul Tanner then made two more changes. Club captain Darren Wilson came on for the first time since he suffered a bad eye injury against Chessington and shored up the defence, while Ross Cheek gave Farnham a late injection of energy.
Matt Corbett and Matt Glass combined well to score a goal apiece and complete a good afternoon for Farnham.
“With only have one loss at this stage, I can’t really complain, considering we didn’t pick up a point until seven games into last season, said manager Tanner.
