TONGHAM 3, LIGHTWATER 3

TONGHAM came into this game on the back of two wins, having also kept a clean sheet the previous week, but were held to a draw by struggling Lightwater at Poyle Road.

The game started at a sizzling pace. Tongham moved the ball quickly and efficiently from left to right, with former Farnham Town man Neville Tuck showing his long-passing prowess.

Lewis Cocklin and Dan Carter made great strides on the wings and Tongham could have scored twice early on. However, when Cocklin did get through one-on-one with the keeper, he made no mistake, bobbling his shot into the net.

Tongham pressed hard to double their lead, but Lightwater counter-attacked and an angled 25-yard shot by Dunnage found the top corner.

An unmarked Tuck missed a great chance to restore the lead, but that was soon forgotten as a corner was fired in and Tuck’s header flew into the top corner.

Back came the visitors, forcing three classy saves from Nick Garwood, and then it was 2-2 as an intelligent long ball exposed Tongam’s defence and Jewell equalised.

Tongham manager James McArthur rang the changes at half-time and substitute Nathan Tull made an instant impact, his shot eventually trickling into the net.

Tongham, perhaps unlucky not to be awarded a penalty, gave away needless free-kicks on the edge of the box. Almost inevitably, from another set-piece, Garwood was left in no-man’s land as centre-half Muir headed Lightwater’s third equaliser.
