CLUB captain Callum Reynolds and Player of the Season Manny Oyeleke have asked to leave Aldershot Town.
It’s more fall-out from Aldershot’s failure to win promotion from the National League after reaching the play-offs and a serious setback in their preparations for the 2018-19 season.
Reynolds, a rock of the defence at either centre-back or full-back, and midfield strong man Oyeleke informed manager Gary Waddock they would not be signing new contracts at Aldershot.
Reynolds, 28, made 90 appearances in two seasons with the Shots, having joined from Boreham Wood in July 2016, while Oyeleke, 25, played 101 games and scored nine goals across four spells at the EBB Stadium, culminating in him being named both Players’ and Supporters’ Player of the Year for 2017-18.
Both players seek to further their careers with new clubs.
Regular right-back Cheye Alexander and midfielder Jim Kellermann have already indicated they intend to move on.
Brighter news for Shots fans is that striker Scott Rendell, midfielder Jake Gallagher and Academy graduate Matt Bozier have agreed new one-year contracts.
Rendell was Aldershot’s top scorer last season with 13 goals from 28 starts, taking his club tally to 30 goals in exactly 100 appearances across three spells.
England C international Gallagher will extend his time at Aldershot into a fourth season and increase his current total of 120 appearances, having joined from Welling United in the summer of 2015.
Bozier, 18, who can play either as a full-back or winger, made his first-team debut against Solihull Moors in September 2017. He was loaned to Southern League side AFC Totton in the second half of 2017-18, playing 17 matches.
• Aldershot have confirmed the first two pre-season friendlies. They will host League One outfit Oxford United on Tuesday, July at 17 and four days later, on Saturday, July 21, the Shots will visit National League South team Wealdstone.
