BARTON ROVERS 8, PETERSFIELD TOWN 0 (Evo-Stik Southern League Div I Central)

A BRUISING defeat at the hands of third-placed Barton Rovers confirmed that Petersfield will finish bottom of the league.

It’s been a sad decline for the Rams after their promising debut in the Southern League. The regular turn-over of managers and players left the club poorly equipped to deal with the higher standard and with just two wins in 37 matches this season, they are heading back to the Wessex League with five fixtures still remaining.

Connor Calcutt notched a hat-trick for Barton in Saturday’s rout and Elliot Bailey scored twice. The other goals came from Tom Smith, Jimmy Hartley and Danny Watson.

* Petersfield were much improved on Tuesday, losing by a single goal to mid-table Hanwell Town at Love Lane. After a goalless first half, Dean Allen scored Hanwell’s winner on 64 minutes.
