BEMERTON HEATH 4, PETERSFIELD TN 1
PETERSFIELD failed to follow up last week’s welcome home win and lost heavily to a good Bemerton Heath side in the Sydenhams Premier League.
The Rams have a habit of scoring first in away games, only to end up losing. It happened again as the visitors went ahead in the 24th minute, Danny Thompson scoring from the penalty spot after Billy Connor was brought down in the area.
Bemerton soon equalised with a penalty of their own – converted by Seb Dawes – and a Jack Slade goal put the home side in front before the interval.
Connor went close to levelling it up in the second half, but, true to form, Petersfield faded and Jordan Matthews effectively settled the outcome with Bemerton’s third goal.
Substitute Jake Rawkins scored a late fourth goal for Bemerton who remain tenth in the table.
Petersfield, who have confirmed Mark Summerhill as their permanent manager, have 10 matches left to save themselves. Their next three fixtures are at home and they need at least six points to have a realistic chance of avoiding bottom spot. They host the Team Solent university side this Saturday.
Petersfield: Eaton, Llewelyn, Kershaw, Tayler, Plackett, Kennedy, Keogh, Thompson, Connor, Tremlett, W Essai. Subs (used): Kendall, Gouge, Holford.
• Alresford Town’s Premier Division match against local rivals Horndean was postponed on Saturday, due to pitch problems at Arlebury Park. But the Magpies made up for lost time with a superb 2-0 win over second-placed Blackfield & Langley on Tuesday.
Alresford were excellent in the first half and sunk the Watersiders with two goals in a six-minute spell, the scorers being Craig Harding and new signing Ryan Green.
