AFC DUNSTABLE 3, PETERSFIELD TOWN 1 (Evo-Stik Southern League Div I Central)
PETERSFIELD Town were holding their own against high-riding AFC Dunstable until they conceded two goals in seven minutes either side of half-time.
The first half was uneventful until the 43rd minute when Petersfield failed to clear their lines and Abe Mannion’s low cross was prodded in at the near post by Jermaine Hall.
Petersfield had a decent chance to equalise before the break. Matt Andrews’ powerful header was palmed over the bar by keeper Ricky Perks.
However, the Rams were lucky not to find themselves two down as Hall’s shot was deflected onto the crossbar by Jamie Bray.
The visitors shot themselves in the foot almost straight from the restart. A throw-in from the right found its way into the six-yard box and Hall accepted the simplest of chances.
Petersfield’s hopes flickered in the 81st minute when Will Essai beat Perks with a strong cross-shot to make it 2-1.
But Petersfield’s failure to do the basics in defence cost them again. They failed to deal with through-ball and and Bernard Christie snapped up the chance for Dunstable.
Petersfield: Bray, Searle, Graham, Giles, Medway, Geddes (Harvey), Larbi, Awford (Alozie), Andrews, Wedlake (Connor), Essai. Sub (not used): Tucker.
PETERSFIELD 3, HISTON 4
PETERSFIELD prop up the division after losing the basement clash on Tuesday. After a nightmare start – they trailed 3-0 after 12 minutes – Petersfield fought back valiantly and looked to have rescued a point at 3-3 with only a few minutes remaining.
But there was late agony for the Rams as Matt Allan scored his second of the night to win the game for Histon who move one point ahead at the foot of the table. Ominously for Petersfield, they have played more games that any of the teams around them.
James Carman and Elkanah scored the Cambridgeshire side’s other goals. Zach Nicholson-Pibworth, Will Essai and Matt Andrews scored the goals that had Petersfield briefly level.
