FARNHAM Town FC Juniors took 81 players on their tour to the Isle of Wight and pride of place went to the U9 Devils team who won their age group at the the 2017 SCI Ultimatch Tournament.

An extra thrill for the many youngsters was receiving their trophies from Darren Anderton, the former England and Spurs star.

The tournament was played out at Seaclose Park, Newport, with 13 pitches in use and every team playing three to five matches on each of the two days.

The Farnham players and their families stayed at Nodes Point Resort Holiday Park and with the club taking ten teams and 224 supporters, there was the buzzing atmosphere of a mass holiday.

The Farnham teams taking part were: U8 Falcons, U8 Eagles, U9 Devils, U9 Dragons, U9 Hawks, U10 Reds, U10 Blues, U11 Crusaders, U11 Dragons, U11 Knights.

All the teams won at least one game and several notched up more than one.

The Devils lifted the U9 Trophy after losing just once. On the Saturday, they were unbeaten in four matches and didn’t concede a single goal. They headed their group by two points after winning seven out of eight games, scoring 13 goals and conceding just two.

The final was against Downside Youth from the IoW. It remained 0-0 after normal time and the Devils won 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out. Harry King pulled off three saves, while Alistair Goldsworth, captain Leo Walton and Freddie Ashby scored from the spot for the Devils.

Teams competing in this very successful tournament came from Kent, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Middlesex, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The Farnham boys showed great determination and team spirit over the two days and this was a thrilling climax to their season.
